Press-fit technology enables high-quality, solderless electrical connections. With this special connection technique, individual contact parts or entire assemblies are press-fit with press-fit zones in metallised recesses on a circuit board. This results in gas-tight, conductive contact between the press-fit pin and the screw hole. A clean connection and low contact resistance require a press-fit zone with a larger diagonal than the hole diameter on the circuit board. Forming of the press-fit pin and the circuit board results in a gas-tight, mechanically reliable electrical connection.
Innovative technology, quality without compromise
With Härter press-fit zones, the Härter Group offers an innovative, solderless connection technology for a wide range of requirements on an international scale. Punching tools developed and produced at our in-house tool shop form the foundation for high process reliability. Our production undergoes continuous process monitoring with state-of-the-art camera systems and 3D measurement equipment. We actively involve customers in our quality management. Tailored control plans and long-time studies (trend analyses) of select features are other important components of our comprehensive quality concept.
The advantages at a glance:
• No soldering errors, no flux problems
• High reliability
• No additional washing necessary
• No thermal loads on the circuit board and the electronic components
• Quick, inexpensive circuit board population
• Circuit board can be populated on both sides
• Recycling thanks to simple extraction

Härter compliant press-fit zones HCP and EloPin®-HCP
Standard soldering technology is more and more often being replaced by press-fit technology not only in the automotive sector, but in virtually all industries using electronics. With our flexible press-in zones HCP (material thickness 0.6 mm and 0.8 mm) and EloPin®-HCP (material thickness 0.4 mm, 0.6 mm and 0.8 mm), we offer solutions for a wide variety of applications. Plus, we are currently working on even more variants.
Based on the application temperature and electric conductivity requirements, we process many different materials. The Härter and EloPin® Compliant Press-Fit Zones can be used in circuit boards with plated through holes as per the new standard IPC 9797 for press-fit zones, in accordance with DIN EN 60352-5 as well as customer specifications.

Prototype production of Härter press-fit zones HCP and EloPin®-HCP
To ensure production at our customers’ premises goes smoothly right from the start, our in-house prototyping shop can manufacture sample concept parts on existing tools before series production to tailor solutions to customer-specific requirements. All influencing parameters crucial for Härter press-fit zones are already defined during the product engineering phase and can be taken into consideration while manufacturing prototypes. This includes raw materials, press-fit zone geometry and surface coating, for example. During this phase, Härter works not only with the original active elements for the Härter and EloPin® press-fit zones – the punching machines are also already running with the strokes rates from series production. Various punching machines are available in a separate area exclusively for sample and prototype production. Customers looking to create prototypes don’t have to wait for punching capacity to open up or to stop series orders. Benefit from our innovative technology and experience: Our specialists in press-fit technology product management will support you from manufacturing prototypes to series production.
Metal/plastic composite parts with Härter press-fit zones
At Härter, we can also produce complex assemblies. We design and build product-specific prototype tools in our own die making shop. Our versatile machine fleet for producing overmoulded/fitted punched part prototypes with press-fit zones is available for all our customers’ needs.

Qualification of press-fit connection of Härter press-fit zones
At our in-house press-fit zone lab, we perform all major tests for assessing the press-fit connection.
• Press-fitting and extraction
• Contact resistance
• Grind testing
• Spring characteristics of the press-fit zone
• Whisker testing
• Rapid changes in temperature
• Long-term temperature
• Damp heat
• Visual inspections with the Keyence 3D microscope
When it comes to quality, we leave nothing to chance. Tests in our laboratory are carried out in accordance with the new standard IPC 9797 for press-fit zones, DIN EN 60352-5 as well as customer specifications. We coordinate the test scope, process and parameters with our customers based on their application. For testing with vibration and corrosive gas, we rely on the support of experienced external partners.
